Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island expands access to prescription medications, primary care and behavioral healthcare
Temporary policy changes include reimbursing primary care providers and behavioral health providers for treating patients by phone
PROVIDENCE, RI (March 5, 2020) – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island continues to be in communication with government officials so we can share up-to-date information regarding coronavirus disease (COVID-19) with our members, customers, employees and the provider community. While there have been several confirmed cases in Rhode Island, it’s important to note that the Rhode Island Department of Health has stated the risk of individuals in our state contracting the virus remains low.
To increase access to care during this time of heightened concern, BCBSRI is taking the following steps:
- Allowing members to fill prescriptions earlier than the standard 30 days
- Reimbursing participating primary care providers who treat patients over the phone
- Reimbursing participating behavioral health providers who treat patients over the phone
