BCBSRI announces 2023 BlueAngel of the Year
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Feb. 20, 2024) – Doris De Los Santos, director of supplier diversity at Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI), has been named the company’s 2023 BlueAngel of the Year. She was nominated by her peers in recognition of her dedication to the company’s commitment to community investment.
In 2023, De Los Santos logged a remarkable 174 volunteer hours, lending a hand to 29 different nonprofit organizations. She was a team captain in the company’s annual Gobble Games fundraiser, helping BCBSRI donate more than $20,000 to the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
“Doris takes volunteering to the next level. Her energy is boundless and commitment unwavering,” said Carolyn Belisle, BCBSRI managing director of corporate social responsibility. “She leads with her heart and is a wonderful example of our BlueAngel culture of belonging and community service and investment.”
Since its inception in 2001, the BlueAngel of the Year program honors BCBSRI employees who make a difference in their communities through enthusiastic participation in the BlueAngel Community Investment Program. At the ceremony announcing De Los Santos as the 2023 BlueAngel of the Year, BCBSRI awarded a $500 grant to a nonprofit of her choice, Community MusicWorks, in her honor.
In her position at BCBSRI, De Los Santos advocates for supplier diversity within the organization while building relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. BCBSRI is committed to increasing its procurement of products from businesses owned by minorities, women, disabled veterans, members of the LGBTQ community, and other traditionally underrepresented groups.
De Los Santos serves on the company’s BlueAngel Advisory Council, a group of associates from all across the organization who lend their time, talent and expertise to build successful community investment initiatives. She also serves on the company’s Diversity Council, which is committed to promoting diversity, inclusion and cultural competence at BCBSRI.
De Los Santos is also involved with Roger Williams University, Family Service of RI, Rhode Island Parent Information Network, and Community MusicWorks, and is a member of the 2023-24 cohort of the Rhode Island Foundation’s Equity Leadership Initiative.
