An “advance directive” (also known as a “medical directive”) is a legal document that states your wishes regarding lifesupport or other medical treatment in certain circumstances, usually when death is imminent. It allows you to put in writing ahead of time your wishes for medical care. If you ever become unable to communicate, your family and healthcare providers will know your wishes.
